The federal government is about to turn out the lights on an invention that hasn't changed much since it first illuminated the darkness in the mid-1800s.

Starting Jan. 1, 100-watt incandescent bulbs -- some appropriately call them heat bulbs instead of light bulbs -- will no longer be manufactured in this country.

It's part of the government's effort to move consumers away from inefficient energy-hog incandescents and toward energy-saving light sources, like compact fluorescent bulbs, halogen bulbs or LED (light emitting diode) bulbs.

First to go are 100-watt incandescents, followed by 75-watt bulbs in 2013 and 60- and 40-watt bulbs in 2014.

Peter Kuntz, assistant manager of the Lowe's Home Improvement store in northwest Springfield, said he'll sell the 100-watt incandescents until the company's distribution center runs out.

He said many people already are making the switch to more energy-efficient bulbs because they save money over the long haul, even though they cost more initially. Our Flexible led strip are available in a variety of styles from a super thin non-waterproof ribbon strip to an ultra-bright waterproof strip.

"A 60-watt compact fluorescent uses only 13 watts of energy," he said.LED Bike light available online at Halfords. "With an incandescent bulb, a lot of that energy goes just to make heat."

With CFL bulbs now offering a wider range of color, instead of the harsh blue-white light when they first came out, Kuntz said more customers are making the switch.

Lowe's also sells ultra-efficient LED bulbs, which might cause some sticker shock for first-time buyers.

A six-pack of 60-watt CFL bulbs sells for about $13; one 60-watt LED costs $19.32.

"But the LED lasts 33 times longer than a normal incandescent bulb," Kuntz notes.

At Westlake Hardware on South Campbell Avenue,Choose from マジコン and LED lighting for household or car use. General Manager Jody Chambers said some customers have been stocking up on incandescent bulbs ahead of the phaseout.

The low price of incandescent bulbs -- $ 1.99 for a four-pack of 60 watt bulbs -- may be a budget issue for some people, Chambers said.

His store carries a wide range of CFLs, but Chambers said he hasn't yet started stocking LED bulbs.

"I think LEDs today are where CFLs were at five years ago," he said.

I've never understood why people get up way before the crack of dawn to go Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving.

Well, the early birds will get a break of sorts this year, at least at Macy's.

Instead of getting up early, bargain hunters can just stay up late and make the mad rush when Macy's opens its doors at 12 a.m.We are professional led panel light, led lighting manufacturers and factory in China. It'll be interesting to see if other stores take up that late-night challenge.
